To avoid Spotlight dodging stage:

After you've used the screwdriver and oilcan to
get the lens you will then be able to make you
way into the observatory. Go down get off the
lift and save your game.
Re-load this game and you'll end up straight at
the door and bypassed the spotlight dodging section.
